A former prosecutor — the eldest son of a Republican congressman — is running for attorney general.Alan Wilson said Friday in an e-mail he will formally announce on Tuesday in Columbia his candidacy as a Republican in the 2010 election. He becomes the first candidate to seek to replace Republican Attorney General Henry McMaster, who is running for governor.
Wilson was an assistant solicitor in Lexington County from 2003 to 2006 and an assistant attorney general from 2007 until January. Between those jobs, the National Guard major served a year in Iraq.He is the eldest son of U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson. R-S.C.. He and his wife, Jennifer — a former broadcast reporter — have a 1-year-old son. Their second child is due in December.
