December 15, 2009 – WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint R-South Carolina, chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, made the following statement:”This unnecessary decision to bring known-terrorists away from a secure facility off our shores and into American neighborhoods is appalling. The President’s decision may please some European elites but it doesn’t make American families any safer. I will continue to fight these misguided policies that weaken our national security and embolden our enemies.”Senator DeMint has proposed legislation to extend the ban on moving terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to U.S. soil, but Senate Democrats have blocked it from receiving debate and a vote.
