If You ever Wrote for Examiner, you might want to Read this

NowPublic was a crowd-sourced citizen journalism site based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, founded by Michael Tippett, Leonard Brody and Michael E. Meyers in 2005.

In addition to its contributors, NowPublic also had a content-sharing agreement with the Associated Press. The crowd-sourced site was so successful that Time Magazine called NowPublic one of the 50 Best Websites of 2007.

NowPublic-ImageMainstream media types may gripe about the absence of safeguards ensuring the validity of news reported by the blogosphere, but nowhere are the merits of citizen journalism more apparent than at NowPublic. At this “participatory news network,” a.k.a. bastion of “crowd-powered media,” anyone can write a story, or upload images, audio or video. Whatever gets the most votes from the reading masses—the site gets about 1 million unique visitors per month—ends up as the lead story. (NowPublic has “guest editors,” “wranglers” and an “actual news guy” who keep an eye on things, giving advice to contributing reporters and shepherding the best, most timely stuff through, but nobody on staff makes actual editing changes to the content.)

NowPublic now counts nearly 97,000 contributing reporters in more than 140 countries around the world. During Hurricane Katrina, NowPublic was there; eight contributors filed on-the-scene reports from London’s Heathrow Airport during the August 2006 terrorism lockdown—while the regular press was forced to wait outside. On June 6 NowPublic’s coverage of a storm in Oman made it to the top of the AOL and Yahoo news sites.

In September 2009 NowPublic was acquired by Clarity Digital Group (CDG). Clarity is solely owned by the Anschutz company, an investment company located in Denver, Colorado. According to reports, Leonard Brody assumed the position of President of the  Clarity Digital Group and Michael Tippet became the CEO of NowPublic after the sale.

In December 2013 Clarity closed the NowPublic site and redirected it to www.examiner.com.

Who will Win the Virginia Governor Race? Cuccinelli or McAuliffe

Politisite Political Projections

Politisite Political Projections takes in to consideration many factors when utilizing a particular poll for our model.

We weigh polls differently based on their previous general election accuracy.

We toss polls that have a Margin of Error (MoE) that exceeds +/-5%.

We further take in to consideration the pollsters assumptions of the makeup of the electorate by considering the average PVI for the State polled.

Next we look at momentum of each of the candidates.  This is similar to momentum investing in stocks.   We look at the polling data and assign a momentum figure based on statistics that suggest whether a candidate has a positive, negative, or neutral momentum that could translate into a higher percentage outcome on Election Day.  This is the reason we call our model a “projection” rather than “prediction.”  One could argue for either word.

While Nate Silver at FiveThrityEight says he adds a “secret sauce” to come up with his predictions for election outcomes, we too have that additional secret something.  Since we are located in the South, we will equate our “special formulations” to the secret formula in Cocoa Cola.

In the Virginia Gubernatorial race to be held on November 5th, 2013 we  See normal upward momentum for both the  Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Ken Cuccinelli as voters more from undecided to making a final decision before the election.  The Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis has some downward pressure as voters realize that although they are unhappy with the current state of a two party system, have come to the realization that a vote for the Libertarian candidate will ultimately put a Democrat in the Governors Mansion.

Based on pure poll aggregation and weighting, Democrat Terry McAuliffe would win by a seven (7) point margin with 48.7% of the vote.  But by judging past Libertarian voting behavior in Virginia, we think that the 9.2% current polling for Sarvis is overstated.

Based on our careful analysis the Politisite Political Projection is as Follows:

Veterans Facing their Biggest Battle on the Homefront, PTSD

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a silent killer of our veterans. For various reasons both diagnosis and treatment are lacking and many of these veterans end up homeless and addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Statistics, covering the dead and wounded of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan only tell half the story. Many veterans are suffering in silence with mental health and addiction problems. Others are struggling to get the help they need from their government both in the U.S. and Canada.

Twelve years of war both in Iraq and Afghanistan have taken their toll. The Department of Defense in its latest casualty report shows that 2143 US soldiers have been killed, while 19,334 were wounded in action (WIA). The website iCasuaties.org reports that the coalition total is 3,389 killed.
